Explanation:
Straw pellets have much the same physical characteristics and performance as wood pellets. Consequently, rather than repeat the explanations here, please see wood pellet horse bedding for details.
The main difference between straw pellets and wood pellets are:
- Straw pellets are edible, so horses are more likely to eat straw pellets than wood pellets, and in greater quantity. However, in the case of a horse that eats both types of pellets, straw pellets are less likely to cause colic.
- Straw pellets rot down faster, so less storage is required for soiled bedding than with wood pellets
- Unlike wood pellets, it is not neccessary to spray them with water prior to use. This is because they are softer than wood pellets and break down more easily.
